Summer means dancing, fun, friends, and great music! Luckily, living in L.A. makes it super easy to find concerts and shows. No matter what your taste or budget, there’s something for everyone and my list of awesome upcoming concerts is below to help get you groovin’.
Santa Monica Pier Twilight Concert Series
Theres nothing better on a warm summer evening than a free concert series by the beach. Yep, free! Starting July 7th, the Santa Monica Pier will host a different artist every Thursday night from 7:00 to 10:00pm (which makes it easy to explore the pier or grab a bite on Main Street Before)! Tip: you can also bring a picnic or wine & cheese to the beach…blankets are helpful too!
The series opens with Mayer Hawthorne, a new soul artist who’s been steadily taking over the internet. Other artists on the line up include Borns,The Psychedelic Furs, Protoje & the Indiggnation, and Natalia Lafourcade. Check the website for the eclectic blend of styles and artists in the lineup, or follow on Snapchat to stay in the know.
The Hollywood Bowl is a fantastic outdoor concert venue with a beautiful view and vibe. Its massive seating capacity draws big name artists of the highest caliber while the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra provides musical depth and quality. The summer season kicks off on June 18th with a performance by Steely Dan accompanied for the first time by a full orchestra. Performances by Sting & Peter Gabriel, Diana Ross, The Lumineers, and the Dixie Chicks are all on the books in the coming months. Other exciting shows this summer include Reggae Night XV featuring Burning Spear, Garrison Keillor of Prairie Home Companion, and concert renditions of Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone, as well as Star Trek. For fans of classical music, don’t miss Rhapsody in Blue by Yuja Wang and Dudamel, Stravinskys Firebird, or the Tchaikovsky Spectacular with fireworks. Don’t forget to picnic with you friends before hand! You can bring your own food and bev or purchase snacks and wine at the bar.
The Fonda Theatre
The Fonda Theatre (formerly The Music Box) is another exciting concert venue for summer. It strives to be socially responsible through their participation in AEG 1EARTH, an environmental sustainability program which means you’ll feel good attending events at this diverse venue that attracts big name artists and indie favorites alike. In the coming months, check out Toots and the Maytals, Emblem3, Mudcrutch, Indigo Girls, and much more. Food and drinks are available to keep you rocking all night long, and if you want to keep up-to-date on upcoming events, sign up for All Access through The Fonda’s website to be the first to know about new scheduled shows.
The Greek Theatre
The Greek Theatre, conveniently located in Griffith Park, is a cornerstone of the L.A. music scene. Outdoor seating makes it the perfect summer venue. You can look forward to performances by Ringo Starr and His All Starr Band, Bryan Adams, Boston, Goo Goo Dolls, Meghan Trainor, Miranda Lambert, Steve Miller Band, Jackson Browne, Lynyrd Skynyrd & Peter Hampton and many more. Off-site parking and a convenient shuttle help make getting to the show easy on you and on the environment.
Whether you’re looking for free shows at the beach, big name classics, or best kept indie secrets, you’ll have no problem finding something to pique your interest this summer in Los Angeles. Visit the venue websites linked above to learn more about scheduling and sales. Don’t wait too long now…lots of other fans will be itching to get their hands on tickets for some of these awesome gigs so you’ll want to be the first!
As for concert outfits and festival outfits, I tend to go edgy or boho pending the performance and here are some of my favorite looks:
